OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

Our Field of Flags is an annual project by Jackson Madison Chapter. 100 American flags proudly fly on the Triangle near downtown Jackson to honor our Revolutionary War patriot ancestors' sacrifice and dedication to our country. The Field of Flags is installed before Flag Day, June 14, and remains until after Independence Day, July 4.

Jackson DAR members attended state meeting

"Jackson Madison Chapter TSDAR Attends State Conference

            Members from the Jackson Madison Chapter Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution attended the state conference held recently in Franklin, TN.  Members who attended as voting delegates were Regent Jackie Utley, Chaplain Sherry Taylor, Membership Chair Phyllis Little, and DAR Good Citizen Chair Jane Wolfe.
            The 3-day meeting featured workshops, business sessions, and awards ceremonies.  The Jackson Madison Chapter was awarded 22 honors on the District Level including Best Flag Activity for “Our Field of Flags.” The chapter received 24 awards on the State Level including Special Commendation for Outstanding Service to Veterans; State Winner for Best Flag Activity; Outstanding Commemorative Event Publicity for the George Washington Biography Study; Best in State for Retaining and Reinstating Members; First Place in Conservation Activities; and Second Place for the Most Bibles Submitted for the State Regent’s Project.  The chapter’s Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration won First Place in Commemorative Events at the State Level, and First Place in the Southeast Division (Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia). 
            Individual awards were presented to chapter members Jo Ann Birmingham for Tennessee State Outstanding Volunteer Genealogist, and Sherry Taylor for Tennessee State Outstanding Chaplain.
            In addition to these awards and special certificates, the chapter was awarded $135.00 in cash prizes for their outstanding work during 2008.
            DAR is known as the largest women’s patriotic organization in the United States and has over 165,000 members with 3000 chapters in 50 states and 11 foreign countries.
